Photos from Falla Park Community Primary School's post๐ Working Hard in Year 6 ๐ Our Year 6 Leopards have been busy this past month! ๐งฎ In Maths, weโve been using the Cuisinaire Rods to explore multiplicative and additive relationships in structures. We used our rods to help us create bar models when exploring written problems. โ๏ธ In English, weโve explored different grammar features, such as subordinate clauses, semi-colons and adverbials as weโve created our non-chronological report on Mount Everest. Weโre getting ready to publish next week and canโt wait to show our final pieces! ๐งซ In Science, weโve continued to explore Living Things and their Habitats as we designed an experiment to see in which conditions mould grows most successfully. Weโve never seen so much mould on a slice of bread before! ๐บ๏ธ In Geography, weโve continued to look at sustainability. Photos from Falla Park Community Primary School's post๐๐ฆ Year 1 Hedgehogs Update! ๐ฆ๐ What a wonderful month our Year 1 Hedgehogs have had! In PE, the children have been practising their running skills ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ They discovered that using their "robot arms" helps them become more streamlined and they worked out that standing ready with their feet and arms prepared is the best position to start running, rather than sitting or lying down. What fantastic thinking and teamwork! ๐ In Art, they have been exploring different drawing techniques and creating beautiful spiral artwork using oil and soft pastels ๐จ The children have also enjoyed observational drawing of shells ๐ and practising continuous line drawings, showing great concentration and creativity. During Computing, the Hedgehogs have loved using Purple Mash to create their own digital artwork. They have also been learning about copyright and why it is important to put our names on our work so that everyone knows who it belongs to โ๏ธ๐ In Science, the children have been learning how to classify animals into different groups, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds ๐ถ๐๐ธ๐๐ฆ They have also been investigating vertebrates and invertebrates and even ventured into Forest School to search for invertebrates such as snails, worms and spiders๐๐ชฑ๐ท๏ธ The children learned that these animals are invertebrates because they do not have a backbone. What fantastic young scientists! ๐ฌโจ In Maths, the children have been learning about two-digit numbers and place value ๐ข Using straw bundles and Dienes equipment, they have been building numbers and exploring the value of each digit. Mrs Buckley and Mrs Errington have been incredibly impressed with how quickly the children can make numbers and explain their thinking!โญ๐ In Reading, the children were excited to take part in a World Record Reading Session ๐๐ They joined children from around the world to celebrate the joy of reading and showed fantastic listening and engagement throughout the event. Photos from Falla Park Community Primary School's post๐พ๐ Year 3 had a fantastic day at East House Farm learning all about where our food comes from! ๐๐พ The children spent the day exploring the working farm and discovering how crops are harvested at this time of year. It was amazing to see the huge amounts of grain stored in the sheds and learn how it is transported from the fields to the barns. ๐พ๐ก They then investigated different types of grain, including barley, wheat and oats, and discussed what they are turned into, such as flour and oil, before thinking about the foods we use every day, including breakfast cereals and bread. The children even had the opportunity to grind grain into flour themselves and separate it into white flour and bran! ๐ฉโ๐พ As well as learning about crops, the children visited the sheep and had the chance to feed them. ๐ The children found out how they are cared for and raised on the farm, and enjoyed getting up close to them. Photos from Falla Park Community Primary School's post๐ชWhat an incredible day of learning and discovery!๐ช Our Year 5 children had a fantastic visit to the Centre for Life today where they explored the worlds of space, engineering, dinosaurs and fossils. ๐They began the day with an exciting workshop all about being engineers in space. The children took on the challenge of using robot arms to replace solar panels on the International Space Station, just like real astronauts and engineers. They also had the opportunity to taste fresh, dehydrated and freeze-dried strawberries, learning why astronauts often eat freeze-dried food while in space. The workshop was full of fascinating facts, including how astronauts use the toilet whilst wearing spacesuits, and the children were amazed to test just how absorbent a space nappy can be! To end the session, the children enjoyed a spectacular rocket demonstration which finished with an incredibly loud bang! ๐ฆNext, we watched an engaging theatre show all about dinosaurs and fossils, before visiting the planetarium to learn about the constellations and the wonders of the night sky. โญThroughout the rest of the day, the children explored the museum's many interactive exhibits. Photos from Falla Park Community Primary School's post๐ฌ In Year 2 this week โฆ ๐ฅ Year 2 have been learning about The Great Fire of London in History. They have learnt that the fire began on Sunday, September 2, 1666 and the fire started in a small bakery owned by Thomas Farriner on Pudding Lane. A small spark from the oven fell onto some dry wood and started the flames while the family slept. The fire spread so fast because most houses in London were made of wood and straw or thatch roofs, which burned easily. The strong winds blew the sparks from house to house and people used leather buckets, water squirts, and axes to fight the fire. This week the children have been harvesting their knowledge by using books, facts sheets and pictures to create interesting posters about The Great Fire of London. ๐ข In Maths, the children have been learning about place value. They have been making towers of 10 with cubes to show how many tens make up multiples of 10. They now know that 2 tens = 20 and 9 tens = 90 and many more facts. They enjoyed making 10 towers and they know all of the multiples of 10! ๐ The children have also been exploring feelings. They talked about that we have feelings all the time and sometimes those feelings make us feel good, or comfortable and sometimes they don't. They played โFeelings charadesโ โ where someone stands in front of the class and mimes a โfeelingโ with their face and body. The children were asked to think of an uncomfortable feeling. They shared ideas and made posters for how we could help someone feeling this way. Great work Year 2! 4 Likes
