John Hird Cup
The Year 5/6 football team went along to Gateshead International Stadium to play against other local schools in the John Hird Cup. They defeated Lingey House in a very tight game 3-2 to set up a semi-final against Windy Nook, which they won 8 – 1 to set up another final against local rivals South Street. The final, as expected, was a very tight affair with South Street going into an early two goal lead only for Falla Park to draw level just before half time. It was an extremely tense and nervous second half, but sadly South Street just managed to pinch another goal to win 3 – 2. Hopefully, we will be back next year and can go one better and win!!
Thomas Hepburn Non-Competitive Netball
A group of year 6 children went along to compete against other local schools in a non-competitive netball festival where the focus was on participating and having fun and the brilliant children certainly had a fun time!!
The talented year 2 children visited Thomas Hepburn School and tried lots of new golf activities including: chipping, putting and striking the golf ball using pitch wedges and putters. The children worked as a team to score points before the time ran out. They scored 94 points in total – well done team!!
Year 3/4 Football Competition at South Street
The year 3 / 4 football team, managed by Richard ‘Mourinho’ Swan went along to South Street to take part in the cluster football festival. They worked as a team, showed great determination and skill, which resulted in them winning all their games and lifting the cup – go Falla!!
Thomas Hepburn Commonwealth Games
A select group of year 5 / 6 children went along to take part in a multi-skills event against other schools within the Thomas Hepburn cluster. Linked to the Commonwealth Games, the children, 16 in total, where given the country India to represent and had a fantastic morning demonstrating superb running (short and long distance), throwing and jumping skills. Overall, Falla Park came third and everyone had a brilliant time.
Year 1 Multi-Skills Morning
The year 1 children had a fun and exciting time on Thursday morning taking part in different physical activities testing the key aspects of athletics: endurance, speed, agility and strength. With the support of the fantastic year 6 young leaders, they attempted five different activities and Mr Rankin, the PE teacher from Thomas Hepburn was very impressed commenting that he had a fantastic morning working with the children and that they were all great – well done Hedgehogs!!
Year 3 Cycling at Herrington Park
Year 3 went on a cycling trip to Herrington Park as a reward for winning the Big Pedal Competition!! Along with cycle specialists from sustrans, the children cycled around the park perfecting their skills! They learned how to ride safely within a group, about braking distance and how to fix minor problems like a broken chain. It was a brilliant day had by all!!
Year 3/4 Fun Run at Saltwell Park
Year 3 and 4 took part in a charity fun run at Saltwell Park. The active, sporty children and staff performed fantastically with some very good individual times. The children’s warm up was delivered by Olympian, Colin Jackson. The children were a credit to the school and an enjoyable morning was had by all.
Fencing Festival at Cardinal Hume
For the first year, Falla Park took part in the Gateshead Fencing Festival at Cardinal Hume. Our three fantastic fencers competed against other children from around Gateshead – 35 teams in total! Although, the team were a little nervous at the start, they had a brilliant time and we can’t wait to go back next year!!
Nicole: “I was a bit scared trying something new, but it was really exciting!!”
Diako: “I was nervous at first, but it was great fun and we made new friends!!”
Dylan: “I was nervous, however after each bout I got better and it was a brilliant afternoon!!”
6-a-side Summer League Football
The brilliant year 5 / 6 football team went along to South Street to take part in the 6-a-side summer league football tournament. The team worked wonderfully well together and going into the last game they had it all to play for. Happily, after an exciting, nail-biting match they emerged 2-1 winners to end with a 100% record to take the cup – go Falla Park!!
On Wednesday 23rd October 2013 a selected group of children from year 5 and year 6 went along to Thomas Hepburn to take part in the rowing regatta against other Felling cluster schools. They had a great time! As Etta (year 6) said, It was great fun and every school was encouraging each other!” Brandon (year 5) added, “I was really pleased that I won a medal for excellent rowing and also taking part in the competition!” Overall, the children came second with many children gaining individual medals. The staff of Thomas Hepburn were very impressed with the children’s respect for each other and how they encouraged one another – well done Falla Park!
Year 6 Tag Rugby
The whole of year 6 went along to Winlaton RFU to participate in the Year 6 Gateshead Tag Rugby tournament on Monday 21st October 2013. Though the weather was not fantastic, it did not dampen their spirits and all the wonderful children really enjoyed themselves. As Ethan said, “It was actually really fantastic – I loved it!” Throughout the festival, Mr Hauxwell and Miss Beattie (year 6 teachers) were extremely impressed with their commitment, determination and teamwork. Team one finished third within their group and team 2 finished fourth in their group.
On Tuesday 1st October 2013 a select year 3 / 4 and year 5 / 6 running squad went along to Watergate Park to compete in the annual Gateshead Cross Country Event against other primary schools in Gateshead. The children displayed excellent stamina and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done!
