This week we had a special visitor from India, we had a welcome assembly where we sang songs and watched Morris dancers. We began our research by finding out where India was on a map and learnt about the large cities within India.
Next we used the internet to research the Taj Mahal.
“The Taj Mahal is in North India” Christopher.
“2000 people helped to build the Taj Mahal, but they decided to cut the workman’s hands off so they could not build anything so special again!” Quinn
We found out that this was a true love story just like one of our fairy tales.
Abbi got to dress up in an outfit Cheetna brought specially.
Next we had an Indian feast, we tried lots of different foods such as chapattis and curries and talking about what we liked and disliked.
To launch our topic we had a visit from Jolly Olly who took us on a P.E. adventure, we developed our skills of throwing, catching, running and jumping.
Next we learnt about what keeps us healthy, we looked at all the different factors and talked about why we need them and what would happen if we didn’t have them.
“We breathe in oxygen and we breathe our carbon dioxide.” Thomas
“I only eat pizza sometimes because it is bad for me to have it all the time.”
We went on a special trip to take part in a football festival with trainers from Newcastle United. We took part in many different activities that developed our physical skills but also allowed us to chat and make friends with children from other schools.
This is Johnny Peacock he won a gold medal in the London 2012 Paralympics he ran the 100 metres but he only has one leg!
We thought we could run as fast as him so Miss Haley took us on to the yard and timed us as we ran the equivalent of 100m we realised that he was so much faster than us!
We then looked at the values of the Paralympics and how these skills would relate to us and our learning.
To begin with we looked at a strip of photographs and discuss and thought about ideas of what we think our new topic will be about.
“I think it has something to do with growing because there is a baby and then a child.” Oliver
“I think it’s to do with changes as that picture looks really old!”
Miss Haley explains that it was all about how things and our family has changed since the 1950’s!
We went on a trip to the Discovery Museum where we explored different objects from different decades and looked at how technology had changed. We then got to explore the museum looking at different objects and thought about why they may have changed.
Next we used the internet to research what happened in each decade such as what music pop stars there were, any famous events, what the clothes were like. We are getting really good at using Google and copying and pasting photos!
After that we began to look at how technology had changed in particular music players and ordered these on a time line. We then wrote a report about How music players had changed since 1950’s.
Finally we looked at the houses that people used to live in and how the décor had changed but also how much technology has improved and what the different layouts and equipment people have in their houses.
