Year 3 really enjoyed the science based topic- It’s Alive. To launch the topic, they visited the Sunderland Winter Gardens to find out more about growing plants and seeds. They really enjoyed the visit and the workshops.
Back at school, they carried out investigations to see what plants need on order to grow, discovered how seeds are dispersed and planted their own sweet peas. It was great fun!
Falla Park is a Rights Respecting School, and Year 3 are committed to helping others who may be less fortunate. This term, we carried out a sponsored maths challenge and raised lots of money for the NSPCC.
Rise of the Robots
During the Spring Term, Year 3 used their knowledge of design technology and science to create robots with moving parts. They worked in groups to plan, make and evaluate their designs and had lots of fun doing so. At the end of the project, they tested their products by carrying out a robot race!
As part of the ‘Rise of the Robots’ topic, Year 3 learned more about computer programming. They used a program called ‘2 Code’ to create their own programs, solve problems and develop interactive games or stories they were able to share with one another. They also had a visit from Martin Bailey at ‘Animate to Educate’ to help them with their computing skills.
Year 3 visited the Centre for Life to learn more about forces and magnets. The science workshop was fantastic……and so were the exhibitions and the 4D motion ride!
This term Year 3 have been learning how to play a musical instrument….the violin!
Day for Change – 6th February
We held a non-uniform day to raise money for UNICEF. UNICEF is a charity that raises money for children in emergency situations. We all agreed that it was a very worthwhile cause!
We have been investigating maths problems and puzzles using a range of practical activities. In Year 3 we love maths, and have had lots of fun trying out new ways to solving problems.
Liz Million – Illustrator Visit
As part of our ‘Book Worms’ topic, we were visited by a fantastic illustrator – Liz Million. Liz showed us some of her amazing art work and then demonstrated how to sketch and draw our own superhero characters. It was a brilliant workshop and we all really enjoyed it!
Tommy Donbavand came in to school to work with Year 3 as part of our ‘Book Worms’ topic. Tommy is a very popular author of children’s fiction, and it was a real treat to get to meet him and read some of his stories. Tommy helped us to create interesting character descriptions and showed us how to write stories of our own. It was a really fun being an author for the day!
