French Comic Strips
In French we have been learning basic conversational language. We made a comic strip, featuring our very own classmates, using the language we had learned.
How to be a Good Friend
When learning how to write a good set of instructions we looked at all the ingredients we would use to make our perfect friend. After throwing the ingredients into the cauldron we wrote a step by step guide, using our imperatives and adverbs.
‘Into the Forest’ Poems
After reading Anthony Browne’s ‘Into the Forest’ we wrote our own descriptive poems using adjectives, adverbs and similes. We also made them rhyme by using our rhyming word dictionary.
Romulus and Remus Comic and Story
To kick start our topic all about the Romans we read the Legend of Romulus and Remus. First we made a comic strip to show the events of the story and practice using our openers and connectives. Then we retold the Legend using our writing targets, including adjectives, adverbs, paragraphs and speech marks.
In Science we have been learning all about the human body. First we looked at different food groups, and then explored features of the human body. We also learned a very catchy song called ‘Name Those Bones!’
Laing Art Gallery
As we were learning all about Pointillism and the artist George Seurat in our French topic, we had a visit from the Laing Art Gallery. They taught us all we needed to know about Pointillism and how to use the Primary Colours to create the correct effect. We then took characters from George Seurat’s paintings and enlarged them to make giant pointillism figures!
Emails to a French School
As part of our ‘Viva La France’ Topic, we wrote emails to a French school. We asked them questions all about their school day and their after school clubs. We needed all this information to write our reports on school life in France. We got a great reply giving us all the information we needed!
We were extremely lucky to have Nick the chef come and visit us in school. We chopped and measured all of the fresh ingredients then cooked them up to make a delicious beef bourguignon and apples crepes. Yummy!
As part of our Anthony Browne topic, we read his book ‘The Tunnel’ We then wrote our own versions of the story following our success criteria. You’ll be very impressed by our use of similes, adjectives, adverbs, openers and connectives!
No Pens Day
As part of No Pens Day we took part in lots of speaking and listening activities. We used Anthony Browne’s book ‘The Tunnel’ to perform role play, hot seating and decision alley.
Year 3 went out on an exciting trip to Newcastle University as part of the Science Festival. We learned lots of different facts about whales and dolphins which are very handy since we are the Dolphin class! We also took part in sound experiments and watched a fire show. It was pretty scary!
We have violin lessons every Tuesday. We are getting very good at it!
